The Stepping Stones Project
is a series of workshops facilitated by industry professionals and is aimed specifically at new writers and people who have a taste for writing and want to explore their potential further. There will be no travel/childcare expenses available, but it is free to join. Workshops will run from September-December and from January-May 2009. The Chroma International Queer Writing Competition
is for stories of up to 5,000 wds, poems of up to 50 lines and Flash Fiction of up to 150 wds and boasts high profile judges Sarah Waters, Betsy Warland, Robert Glück and Stella Duffy (Velvet Flash Fiction Prize). The Book Doctor
has prescribed a week on Turkey's stunning Turquoise Coast for anyone wanting to write and discover how to get published. Run by Philippa Price – long-time book editor of Stephen King at Hodder – the course covers everything from the basics of how to present and submit a manuscript, through to legal matters and creative exercises. Located on the renovated farmstead of Huzur Vadisi ('peaceful valley'), the location is nestled in an olive grove and provides a stone swimming pool, pine forest walks and hammocks a-plenty, as well as accommodation in a comfortable yurt.
